Covington - TV & Movie History
In recent years, Covington and Newton County have become a mecca for the production of films and TV shows. This area can transform itself into a Civil War village, a 1950’s town or a modern day city.
With scenic and historical locations, and moderate climate, film-makers have used this area extensively. “The Dukes of Hazzard” first five episodes were filmed in and around Newton County. Fans of the show still gather in Covington once a year, with their General Lee’s, to tour location sites and relive the series.
“In the Heat of the Night” was filmed in the Newton County area for seven years. The show continues to draw visitors and has helped make the Courthouse one of the most recognized in the United States.
We also offer a self-guided TV/Movie location brochure that points out location sites for some of our more well-known movies like "Remember the Titans", "Sweet Home Alabama", "Miss Evers' Boys" and "The Cannonball Run".
